Lying in the eastern foothills of the Pennines, Sheffield nestles in a natural amphitheatre created by several hills and the confluence of five rivers: Don, Sheaf, Rivelin, Loxley and Porter. Once defined by smoking chimney stacks and heavy industry, Sheffield has transformed into one of Britain's greenest cities, with a modern cityscape set against the dramatic backdrop of the Peak District National Park.
Sheffield's identity was forged in steel. Famous worldwide for cutlery and metalworking, the city now combines its industrial heritage with universities, culture and an unusually green setting at the edge of the Peak District.
