The spiritual heart of many Muslims around the world, Mecca (officially Makkah al-Mukarramah) is a city in western Saudi Arabia near the coast of the Red Sea. The birthplace of Muhammad, its mosque makes it a pilgrimage site for the devout, receiving millions of worshippers each year. It’s also home to two of the most expensive buildings in the world.
